Amsoil Advantage - Total Base Number

The Total Base Number (TBN) of a lubricant indicates its ability to neutralize contaminants such as combustion by-products and acidic materials. It is a measure of (alkaline) additives in the oil. Higher TBN oils are able to neutralize a greater amount of acidic materials, which results in improved protection against corrosive reactions.

TBN levels are targeted for the intended application. For example, gasoline engine oils typically display lower TBN numbers while oils in a diesel engine must manage high contaminant-loading from soot and sulfur and typically run higher.

TBN levels decrease as the oil remains in service. When the level reaches a point where it can no longer protect against corrosion, the oil must be changed.

Oils that are formulated specifically for extended drain levels typically display elevated TBM numbers to ensure proper corrosion protection for the duration of the extended interval.

Amsoil Advantage
Because AMSOIL lubricants contain consistently high TBNs, they neutralize acidic contaminants formed during the combustion process and keep these contaminants in suspension to prevent corrosion.

Amsoil lubricants use detergent and dispersant additives to significantly reduce sludge and carbon deposit formation better than conventional oils.

Adding Additives to your Oil

A gentleman calls me the other day inquiring about the price of ZRod oilfor his early 70's Chevy. I quoted him a price for both Retail and Wholesale should he decide to be a preferred customer. He decided that the price of the oil was to expensive and he was just going to add an additive to his crankcase. Say What!?!

Ok, so I have this expensive classic car and I don't care about what's best for it or what it cost me to build, I'll just pour enough junk in the crankcase to make me feel good since it's so cheap.

Folks, if you need to be adding additives to your engine to cover up the short comings of your oil then the oil is junk. Select the right oil for your application, and in this case, for a classic older engine that isn't a daily driver, your best bet is Amsoil zRod. I can gaurantee that you won't need to "add" anything to the oil, what you need is already in it!

Could you just imagine the savings

Could you imagine, if all the big rigs on the road today switched over to Amsoil Synthetic lubricants what effect that would have on our dependence on foreign Oil? Changing all the lubricants in your commercial truck would be a Patriotic thing to do!

If you just look at this from the perspective of an individual Owner Operator or a Small Trucking business, you can lower your operating costs!

Of course, how you drive, and what you pay for your fuel will change the example, but it looks promising to me!

Want to really filter your oil?

Amsoil has a bypass filter system for almost all applications.

With this bypass filter system installed on your vehicle, or other equipment you can filter out particles down to less than 1 micron. Add this to your vehicle, add in Amsoil and an oil analysis and you'll start saving money. You'll save by having to change the oil and filters less frequently and the equipment will last longer!

Ask me how you can benefit from this!

Can I use any 2-cycle oil in my 2 cycle engine?

No.

I know, you're going to tell me that you've been using your marine 2-cycle oil in everything from your ATV to your Weedwacker and haven't had a problem. At least yet anyway.

There are many new requirements that manufacturers are putting in place for their modern engines. Take for instance the Rotax E-Tec 800R snowmobile engine. In an effort to reduce emissions less oil is injected into the engine, but the engine is capable of 163.9 HP at 7,900 RPM. So even though less oil is used, it doesn't mean that less lubrication is needed. In this case the manufacturer states that you must use their own oil and nothing else will work. That's not entirely true. Amsoil has oil that will work in that case, and in fact, in a study, using Amsoil showed less wear on the piston and piston wall than using the manufacturers oil. If you'd like more information on that study let me know and I can provide you all the details.

So, yes, you need to use the correct oil for your application, but the correct oil isn't always what the manufacturer claims. Do your own research and look for the oil properties that the manufacturer requires and then find the oil that works best for that application. One of the Beauties of a Synthethic Oil, Amsoil particulary

So, I went out and started the old motorhome that hasn't been started in over 2 weeks, and one of the cars that hadn't been started in about a week. Both came to life with ease and little to no lifter noise at startup. Everytime I used to start a car before I used Amsoil I would wince in pain from the lifter noise and just thinking about how hard that is on the entire engine, not just the lifters. I don't mind starting a car that's been sitting for days now, I know Amsoil with all of it's years of reserach behind it, more than any other synthetic out there I know that my engines are protected.
